Capture NX vs. Lightroom 2 Profiles

Well, I thought Lightrooms 2 with camera profiles and Viveza would eliminate the need for Capture NX.  Well, I’m wrong.  There is obviously some pretty bad color rendering going on here in Lightroom on this picture from Rocky Mountain National Park:

Here’s the accurately rendered version from Nikon’s Capture NX:

Check out the purple color gradation on the Lightroom image.  This color error appears when using ANY Nikon profile in Lightroom.

I don’t hate using Capture NX, I just like using Adobe’s Lightroom much better.  All of the cataloging is done in Lightroom, and it’s a pain to switch to NX to edit an image and reimport the resulting TIFF.  I wonder if there is a plugin for Lightroom to do this for us.

David, thanks for stopping by my site otherwise I may have never found yours. Your photographs are nothing short of fantastic. I love wildlife photography but after seeing your football photos I am in awe of your work. I hope you shoot professionally because if you do not you are missing out on your calling.

Adobe have released Beta profiles that have fixed the posterisation and purple fringing.

I have been using these and they are pretty good. There is still a little work to be done and you can provide feedback to the developer who is working on them.

Cheers Nik
